Custom In-Game Gameplay Suggestions System

A Sims 4 Mod and Community Tool

Basic Information

What is this mod?(click to show)

This mod is a system aiming to help with those moments when you don’t really know what to do next in game.

It makes it possible to get gameplay suggestion prompts in game whenever you want.

It also makes it possible to consult Instruction Lists (for custom "scenarios", etc) in game.

The fun part of the system is that anyone in the community can make a gameplay Suggestion Set or an Instruction List and share it with other players, so that they can get these suggestions in their game too.

The website you are on currently is where players can create their Suggestion Set (and / or Instruction List) files to share with others or enjoy in their own game.

More Info AboutThe Mod

This page is about the process of creating, previewing, editing, downloading or sharing Suggestion Sets.

For information about the mod itself and its behavior in game, check its description page.

Creating Suggestion Sets

How to make my own gameplay Suggestion Set?

You can start making your own Suggestion Set by going to the “New Suggestion Set” section.

How should I phrase my suggestions?

That’s really up to you! For example, they can be:

Note the use of placeholders [(Sim 1) and (Sim 2)]. This is an important part of the process of writing up your own gameplay suggestions.

Can I Rename My Suggestion Set Files?

When saving a Suggestion Set file, it will generate with a name similar to this:

There are several parts to that name:
  • The prefix which tells the mod in game that this file is a Suggestion Set: “Lumpinou_GameplaySuggestionSystem_Set_”
  • the language marker, which indicates the language of the Suggestion Set: “ENG_”
  • the name marker, which is the “nickname” you typed when creating the Suggestion Set, if any. If you didn’t write any nickname, this portion will simply be missing.
  • The suffix made up of randomly generated letters and numbers: “kobsTbZVmnrd”. This serves to make sure that no two Suggestion Sets have the same name.

So, can you rename your suggestion set? Yes and no:

I am a modder, can I make suggestion sets in S4S?

Yes! There is a snippet system that you can use if you would like to work in S4S instead of in the website.

INFORMATION INCOMING

What are placeholders?

Take the following example:

“Time for (Sim 1) to marry (Sim 2) and take (1 their) new spouse on a vacation to Tartosa.”

In game, for a Sim called George whose pronouns are he / him and who dates an Alex, it would show as:

“Time for George to marry Alex and take his new spouse on a vacation to Tartosa.”

Placeholders are what makes it possible to have suggestions showing a Sim’s specific name and pronouns. They adapt to Sim-specific information once displaying in game. But in the Suggestion Set you’re crafting, there must not be names or pronouns, just placeholders for names and pronouns.

Placeholders are forgiving of spaces and case (upper / lower letters).

Placeholder List: (1) or (1 Sim) -> 1st name | (1 Full) -> full name
(1 They) or (1 Subj) -> he/she/they
(1 Their) or (1 Poss) -> his/her/their
(1 Them) or (1 Obj) -> him/her/them
(1 Theirs) or (1 Possindep) -> his/hers/theirs.
(1 Themself) or (1 Refl) -> himself/herself/themself
For the 2nd Sim if any, same thing but with 2 instead of 1.
Note for modders: English TS4 tokens also work.

Creating Instruction Lists

How to make my own gameplay Instruction Lists?

You can start making your own Instruction Lists by going to the “New Instruction Lists” section.

Can I Rename My Instruction List Files?

When saving an Instruction List file, it will generate with a name similar to this:

There are several parts to that name:
  • The prefix which tells the mod in game that this file is an Instruction List: “Lumpinou_GameplaySuggestionSystem_List_”
  • the language marker, which indicates the language of the Suggestion Set: “ENG_”
  • the list name marker, which is the “list name” you typed when creating the Instruction List, if any. If you didn’t write any, this portion will simply be missing.
  • the name marker, which is the “nickname” you typed when creating the Suggestion Set, if any. If you didn’t write any nickname, this portion will simply be missing.
